Finally, there are symptoms such as central scotomas, which are more severe and appear in later stages. These are the symptoms that cause the most effect when it comes to vision loss. Central scotomas are areas of missing vision or shadows, which occur as the result of the blood vessels or yellow deposits, which are the cause of vision loss with age macular degeneration. The symptoms of Macular Degeneration can change slightly or significantly depending on the cause of the degeneration. However, all the symptoms are going to have some direct impact on the ability to see. There may be blurred vision, wavy or distorted vision, loss of contrast perception and color perception as well as the inability to adjust from bright to normal light. These are all signs that there may be macular degeneration occurring in the eye. If the macular degeneration is caused by blood vessels, vision loss may be rapidly occurring rather than the slowly occurring symptoms of dry macular degeneration.
